FEMA supports northwest Missourians in recovery

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided more than 13 million dollars in funding to help northwest Missourians recover from spring flooding and severe storms. Media Relations Specialist for FEMA, Angela Byrd, says FEMA supports survivors that have been impacted by storms in the state of Missouri through funding and insurance.

"Those that have been impacted from April 29th to July 5th. And of course we do have a flood insurance program and it seems that many of the Missourians have flood insurance.  With that, that has helped them also on the road to recovery.  More than 12 million in claims have been paid to those insurance policy holders."

Byrd says FEMA has specifically assisted insurance holders in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt and Platte counties. She adds it is important to reach out for help if you are in need of assistance.

"To visit a disaster recovery center.  I know that you can register online at disasterassistance.gov or you can call our 800 number which is 1-800-621-3362.  But if you need to have that one-on-one support from us, please take the time and visit a disaster recovery center, and you can visit any one."
